Get a "Behind-the-Scenes Look" at Detroit Chamber Winds at ATHENS! All band students/families are invited to attend at no charge a special open rehearsal of the Detroit Chamber Winds & Strings on Tuesday, February 14 in Athens Auditorium. This working rehearsal provides a wonderful opportunity to see how the DCWS shapes and fines tunes a piece of music before presenting it in concert. Under the baton of world-renowned conductor H. Robert Reynolds, the group will premiere a composition by Paul Dooley entitled "Salt of the Earth." The piece is inspired by the desolate landscape and the industrious inner workings of the Detroit Salt Mines. The rehearsal will also include Gustov Holst's "First Suite in E flat for Military Band."
DCWS players represent some of the most talented musicians in the Detroit area. Nearly all come from the Detroit Symphony Orchestra or the Michigan Opera Theatre. Additionally, the group is led by world-renowned conductor H. Robert Reynolds. Retired from the University of Michigan after 26 years, where he was director of University Bands, Reynolds currently is Principal Conductor of the Wind Ensemble at the Thornton School of Music University of Southern California.
The DCWS open rehearsal takes place from 2:15 pm to 5 pm in the Athens High School Auditorium. Composer Paul Dooley will talk about "Salt of the Earth" during the event.
