K-12 Fine Arts Coordinator, Troy School District

P. Jefferson McCoy began teaching at Troy Athens High School in 2000.
Mr. McCoy earned his bachelor’s degree in music from Eastern Michigan
University where he served for four years as drum major of the Marching
Band and directed the Men’s Basketball Pep Band. He has concentrated
his graduate studies in music education and educational leadership.

Mr. McCoy serves concurrently as Fine Arts Coordinator for the Troy S
chool District, supervising the fine arts education of all students, grades
K-12, including courses in band, choir, drama, orchestra and visual arts.
The Troy School District has been recognized five times as one of the
best communities in the country for music education.

Under his leadership, the Athens High School bands have won many
awards and honors including consistent First Division ratings at Michigan
School Band and Orchestra Association District and State Band Festivals.
They have participated in events throughout Michigan and the United States including marching in America’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and
performing for the astronauts aboard the International Space Station via NASA DOWNLINK.

Mr. McCoy has served on various committees and boards at the district and state level for band, choral, and arts organizations, including
several years as vice president of MSBOA District 16 and most recently on the board of the Arts Council for the City of Troy.

Beginning his career in 1988, Mr. McCoy taught vocal music and was band director of North Adams-Jerome Schools. In 1990, he moved to
the Hazel Park School District where he taught high school band for ten years. During this period he also served as director of bands for six
years Oakland Community College Highland Lakes Campus.

Mr. McCoy lives in Hazel Park with his wife Denise and three children Chelsea, Daniel and Rebecca. In his spare time, he enjoys spending
time with his family and arranging music for marching bands, concert bands and drum corps.


Eric Junod
Assistant Director
Instructor, Brass Ensemble

Having taught Symphonic Band and Marching Band at Athens for the last 15 years,
Eric Junod was named Assistant Director in 2006. Eric also instructs Athens’ Brass
Ensemble. While he was studying music education at Wayne State University,
Eric performed with WSU’s symphonic and concert bands, and with the brass
ensemble.  He marched with the Rochester Crusaders Drum and Bugle Corps,
based in Rochester, NY, and also served as a brass technician with the Corps.
Additionally, Eric worked with the Lakeshoremen Drum and Bugle Corps where
he was responsible for music and teaching brass. He currently plays euphonium
with the Oakland Community College Community Band.
